24/05/2003   Rally “Sestroretsk”. The Cup of Russia

On the 17th of May 2003 in the town of Sestroretsk the annual rally of the same name “Sestroretsk-2003” started. For a long period its status remained uncertain. It was quite possible that the rally would be cancelled. However it eventually took place.

”Sestroretsk” is the only asphalt race. The route stretches directly along small narrow streets and footpaths of the towns and settlements of the Gulf of Finland! Rough asphalt here and there sprinkled with guileful sand and gravel, narrow paths one car in width, trees and borders – all these restrict still more the freedom of maneuver of the racers. This is indeed why “Sestroretsk” is deemed one of the most complex during the rally season. This lap for the pilots is the most favorite though: maybe, nowhere else in Russia so many fans gather around as in this Resort District of St. Petersburg. This year there were about 50 crews participating in the rally.

According to the results of the first race day the PeterStar crew was in the lead among the crews of its class (R11), but unfortunately, by the end of the second race day two wheels were punched simultaneously on one and the same side, with this preventing the team from winning a prize.
