02/06/2003   PeterStar’s Participation in Preparing for 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg

During 10 years of its development PeterStar invested material resources in the enlargement and modernization of the Petersburg telecommunications infrastructure, as well as giving support to cultural, sport and charity events of the city and world level.

Especially significant and versatile contribution was made by the company in the course of preparing for the 300th anniversary of the city. During 2003, a jubilee year for the city, the volume of investment was increased up to USD15m. One of the company’s priority projects was its participation in the federal program on celebration of the anniversary, under which PeterStar became a fixed communication operator and provided communication for the CIS and Russia - European Union summits.

Another PeterStar contribution was its participation in municipal improvements. The company’s investment in the reconstruction project implementation for a historical boulevard in Line 16 of Vassilievski Island amounted to more than 4 million rubles. .

Within the scope of preparing the city for the 300th anniversary PeterStar’s project on liquidating a telephone installation queue among the residents of Vassilievski Island. Work on extra cabling of the backbone and distribution network of the district was completed, fully covered by PeterStar’s own funds, and an additional numbering capacity was put into service. This means the settlement of telephone installation problem for over 4 thousand residents in the queue as early as the beginning of 2003. The company is proud of this work and considers it as a serious social contribution for the city.

In April 2003 PeterStar announced expanding the period of reduced tariffs validity for long distance services for the Vassilievski Island residents served under the tariffs of Petersburg Telephone Network. Due to this initiative tariffs for the residents served by PeterStar were decreased by 15% compared to average ones. Moreover, PeterStar opened free access for all its subscribers to the inquiry services “006” è “004” arranged by North-West Telecom for the period of celebration of the 300th anniversary.

On the threshold the city’s jubilee PeterStar launched a program “The City of Worldwide Internet” on arranging public Internet access points: at airports, hotels, cafés. The program is oriented towards those arriving at the airport Pulkovo, as well as schoolchildren and ordinary people. Access is organized using wireless access technology Wi-Fi or by means of installing a sensor kiosk.

In conclusion one can mention PeterStar’s participation in a diversified foreign exhibition “300 Years of Saint Petersburg: Russia Open to the World” in London, which organization was supported by the 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee. To draw attention of the British community to the St. Petersburg jubilee PeterStar issued a series of more than 35000 telephone cards ”300 Years to St. Petersburg” devoted to important city events.
