09/12/2005    PeterStar Installed Latest-Generation Anti-Spam System on Mail Servers

The PeterStar Company has purchased a license for Kaspersky Anti-Spam Software and put into pilot operation a system providing for the protection of Internet mail users against spam. This project is one more step of the Company towards improving the quality of Internet services furnished.

The system installed on the PeterStar mail servers is a high-capacity product of the latest-generation Kaspersky Anti-Spam Family designed for UNIX server platforms. Said technology provides for multilevel filtration of email, including content analysis and mail message markup. It took over a year to rework the configuration and individual setups to meet PeterStar’s requirements and optimize the product and put it into test operation jointly with the product developers. The cost of the project exceeded $20 thousand. To arrange the system a Sun Fire V20z dedicated server was installed with two 64-bit AMD Opteron processors.

Similar intelligent solutions on anti-spam protection are seldom used on the Internet market. Their feature consists in a unique specialized laboratory monitoring spam on a 24x7 basis and processing daily over 100,000 spam messages. Its operation results in Anti-Spam bases updated every 20 minutes. At present free and less resource-consuming solutions based on statistics data on user complaints (“black lists’) are much more popular in the Internet.

“We believe that our customers will soon note positive changes in mail Internet service operation. Each of us has had occasion to face spam filling up our mailboxes. Spam is both an extra load to Internet channels and a lost time to sort messages. Our software system is an anti-spam tool that is more advance and flexible than technology of so called “black-lists” which often unreasonably prevent from sending and receiving necessary mail messages.” – says the General Director of ZAO PeterStar Victor Koresh. It’s emphasized by the Company that Anti-Spam is available for all Internet users of PeterStar at no extra charge.

The first week of using the Kaspersky program by PeterStar resulted in 70-80% messages classified as spam out of 1.5m email letters daily processed by PeterStar’s mail servers on the average. In parallel with said protection PeterStar applies on its mail servers the Doctor Web antivirus program.
