General information About Internet Dial-Up Access

Dial-up connection to the Internet is the most available method of connection. Existing communication channels – the city telephone network – are used as a data transmission medium. In this case data rates do not exceed 5 Kbps. Such data rate restriction is caused by technical characteristics of the equipment used.

To make use of dial-up access a customer needs to have a modem and the relevant software. Via a usual telephone line your modem connects to the Provider’s modem pool. Having established communication, your PC becomes part of the Internet while you become a full user of the network with all network resources without exception being available for you. The telephone from which you call the Provider will be busy for the entire time of connection.

For the purpose of rendering services PeterStar supports a modem pool in St. Petersburg, providing for the modulation standards ITU V.90, V.34+, V.32, V22 and others at phone number 320-3372. The PeterStar modem pool counts over 2000 lines that ensure connection to the Internet from the first attempt in 99% cases.

Dial-up access service is mainly aimed at private persons and the SOHO (SOHO - small office / home office) segment when there is no necessity to exchange big volumes of information via the Intent.

Basic Objectives of the Service “Dial-Up on Credit”:

1. The service is provided for the PeterStar business customers only.
2. Modem pool access number - 320-3372 (the service is not available at other phone numbers).
3. The service is provided on a credit basis and included in the common invoice issued to the customer for communication services.
4. Access to the Internet is authorized (i.e. a client is given a login and password and can take advantage of all additional services (e-mail, ip address etc)).
