Dial-Up Networking Settings For Windows 2000 To Work With PeterStar Node
1. Modem Settings
After your modem has been installed and identified by Windows, it is necessary to check its settings: connections are advisable to be prohibited without error control. For that press the button Start,
then Settings, and select Control Panel.
Find there the icon Phone and Modem Options. Then a window appears, in which
you should open the bookmark Modems, select with the cursor the modem installed,
and press Properties.
Select the bookmark Advanced and press the button Change
Default Preferences.
Put Disabled in the column Compression.
If the Windows system failed to identify your modem’s type, please consult
with your equipment suppler.

2. Installation of Required Components
Press the button Start, then Settings, and select Control
Panel. Find there
the icon Add/Remove Programs,
open the tab Add/Remove Windows Components, select Networking
Services,
press the button Details and tick off the item Simple
TCP/IP Services. Press
OK and the button Next, then Finish.
3. Establishing Connection with PeterStar
Press the button Start, then Settings, and select Control
Panel. Find there
the icon Network and Dial-up Connections. Double click on the icon Make
New
Connection. Press the button Next,
select Dial-up to private network, and press the button Next.
Specify the number of modem pool: 320-3370, remove the flag Use
dialing rules,
and press the button Next.
Enter the name of this connection (for instance PeterStar). Tick off Add
a
shortcut to my desktop if you want this connection to present on your desktop.
After clicking Finish the created connection opens, in which you need to click Properties.


After the bookmark General opens, click Configure and remove the flag Enable
modem compression.
Then press the button OK and go to the bookmark Networking, in which you need
to click Settings and remove the flags Enable software
compression and Negotiate
multi-link for single link connections. Press the button OK once and go to
the TCP/IP protocol settings.
For that in the bookmark Networking, the items Components
checked are used by this connection, Client for Microsoft
Networks and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)must be specified and ticked off.
If the required components are absent, they must be added as follows:
- Client for Microsoft Networks (click Install, then Client, and select Client
for Microsoft Networks);
- Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (click Install, then Protocol, and select Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP)).
Having installed the components you should mark with the cursor Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. A window appears, in which Obtain
an IP address automatically and Use the following DNS server
addresses: Preferred DNS server:
217.195.65.9; Alternate DNS server: 217.195.66.253 should be marked. Then press
OK. And once more OK.
4. Connecting the Internet via PeterStar
Now your PC is set and ready for connection to the Internet. For that start
the created connection PeterStar, and to enter the Network fill in the fields
Username and Password with data you were given at the registration, then press
the button Dial. After dialing the number the PC establishes a connection with
the server PeterStar, and at the right bottom of the task panel an additional
icon appeàs in the form of two blinking monitors to inform you of the status
of connection.
