The transport fiber-optical network (TFOC) owned by PeterStar was created due to a considerable investment in the company infrastructure development. The TFOC is based on PeterStar’s own fiber-optical cable network over 1,00 km in length, covering a large city territory.
At present the TFOC structure consists of 12 rings constructed under Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) technology: - 8 of the rings are of the STM-4 level with a trunk data rate of 622 Mbps; 4 of the rings are of the STM-16 level with a data rate of up to 2.4 Gbps. Equipment suppliers are Lucent Technologies and ECI.
For all the SDH rings 100% redundancy is provided on the principle 1+1: if any of the rings is broken, the connections installed are automatically re-routed without their rupture with this allowing elimination of failures in the system operation. Thus the PeterStar TFOC is a powerful data exchange environment for the provision of customers with high-quality services on modern digital communication. The company provides 24x7 monitoring of the network in order to maintain its uninterrupted operation.
Based on the TFOC the digital telephone network (DTN) and the data network (DN) function.
PeterStar Digital Telephone Network
PeterStar’s DTN is based on highly productive 5ESS telephone exchanges manufactured by Lucent Technologies. By the beginning of 2001 the number of subscriber lines connected to the PeterStar network had amounted to approx. one hundred thousand.
The DTN provides subscribers with services of analog telephony and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network). “Last mile” can be arranged by both copper pair and up-to-date technology of wireless access.
The network makes it possible to digitally connect modern Private Automatic Branch Exchanges (PABX) from various manufacturers.
PeterStar’s DN is built on a wide range of the most up-to-date multiplexing equipment and ATM switches manufactured by General DataComm and Alcatel. Main advantages of the PeterStar network are as follows:
- support of a wide range of communication services and data rates
- capability of customization for changing conditions and growing customer
demands
- application of advanced technology
- easy to configure and control
- full conformity with international standards, confirmed by international
quality certificates for the equipment used
The PeterStar DN allows the provision of customers with:
- digital leased channels services
- PeterStar digital leased channels operated at rates of 300 bauds to 155
Mbps. The services are rendered in the whole territory of Saint Petersburg
and in the near suburbs (Petrodvorets, Gatchina, Pushkin, Kolpino, Kronshttadt,
Sestroretsk, and Zelenogorsk)
- Frame Relay network service
Feature of the Frame Relay network structure consists in minimizing frame transmission
time allowing transmission of good-quality voice traffic over the Frame Relay
network along with data traffic, using special equipment.
From July 2001 the PeterStar Company is an official provider of Internet and
telephony services. The PeterStar Internet nodes are built on the Cisco Systems
equipment.
Thus, the PeterStar transport fiber-optic network is a powerful up-to-date
environment of data exchange through which end users are able to access any
of the services rendered by PeterStar.
