PeterStar is one of the leaders of the telecommunications market of the Northwest Region of Russia, specializing in the provision of telephony, Internet and data services. The Company serves over 100 thousand telephone lines and occupies a considerable share of about 60% of the market of business telephony among alternative communication carriers.

Among PeterStar’s customers are respected organizations such as RF Central Bank, RF Sberbank, Vneshtorgbank, Grand Hotel Europe, Radisson SAS Hotel, Pulkovo Airlines.

The Company possesses affiliates in Moscow, Murmansk, Veliki Novgorod, Pskov, Kaliningrad, Petrozavodsk and Vyborg, the provision of communication services in which is based on up-to-date digital technology.

The PeterStar transport network is one of the largest in the city with the length of its fiber optic cables exceeding 3000 km. Since the beginning of 1992 there has been totally invested over $170m in the PeterStar transport network. The Company provides the entire spectrum of advance technology (SDH, ATM, Frame Relay, IP, DSL) to settle any business task at optimal prices.

PeterStar is awarded a prize by Goscomsvyaz of Russia in the field of quality and is rated among top 30 telecommunications companies by the “Expert” magazine. Based on the results of 2003 PeterStar became a laureate of the VII All-Russian Competition “Best Russian Enterprises”, nominated “For Highest Financial Efficiency”. Having obtained the status LARGE according to the European organization RIPE NCC (status of a large Internet registrar on the territory of the Russian Federation), the Company is among the ten largest Russian Internet providers. Based on the results of 2004 PeterStar is ranked among top 20 taxpayers of Saint Petersburg within the scope of a non-commercial project of the Government of Saint Petersburg.

On August 1, 2005 Emergent Telecom Ventures S.A. and First National Holding (FNH) completed a transaction on acquiring a 71% stake in ZAO PeterStar from Metromedia International Group, Inc. (MIG). At present OAO Telecominvest owns a 29% stake in the Company, and 71% of its shares are distributed among the European investment funds First National Holding (FNH) and Emergent Telecom Ventures (ETV). ZAO PeterStar owns a 100% stake in the telecommunications company Baltic Communications Ltd. (BCL), 90% stake in OAO Pskov City Telephone Network, 100% stake in OAO Pskovintercom, a 100% stake in OAO ASPOL-Diamant-Murmansk, as well as a 100% stake in a Kaliningrad communication operator ZAO Telecom Western Shipping Company.
